Principal's Message

I am delighted to say that so far things have been excellent at Coronation School this year. We have a full crew of volunteers and equipment working on a new inclusive playground that is going to be wonderful for our students. It has been an excellent opportunity for our students to see the value in community working together and volunteering for a worthwhile cause. It has also been an excellent opportunity for members of the school community to come together and throw their backs into a great project for our kids. Our first week of school saw our staff take on the grade 12’s in a number of high spirited competitions. The rest of the school body gets quite involved with the cheering and hollering for one side or the other (usually the grade 12s…).

Our cross country teams, volleyball and golf teams are all up and running with a huge number of students involved in each. This year over 13% of our total school population is on the cross country team!! Congratulations guys, that is incredible!!  Also, a huge thank you to Ian Goodbrand and family for donating the two large tents our kids have been able to get under to stay warm on the two chilly days of the runs.

Students have been doing an excellent job with either leaving their phones in their locker, or placing them in the pouch when they come into class. There has had to be a few reminders, but overall, that is working very well, and I believe teachers and students agree that it has produced a more engaged atmosphere in the classrooms. We have had a busy month with school pictures, as well as orange shirt day and activities celebrating our indigenous and Metis history, and Terry Fox Day which always seems to remain close to everyone’s heart year after year.

Finally we were fortunate to have a community wide dry run on a school evacuation with all services involved. Parents came to the hall to pick up non - bus students while the  fire and rescue services were at the school along with RCMP.  School bus drivers then all came to the hall to gather their riders and overall, it all went very smoothly with everyone working together to ensure the students' care and safety. We are all looking forward to a great October with some more great weather to get outside and enjoy the new playground.
